Chisos Basin is in the relative center of Big Bend. Its actually the remnant of several past volcanic up thrusts. The temperature is several degrees cooler than the surrounding plains due to the significant increase in height. We walked several trails throughout the basin area. The rock formations are huge.
Look closely at the center of picture #4 and you can see Chisos campground, giving you a sense of the size of the surrounding mountains.
