Valley of Fire state park is located about an hour outside of Las Vegas.
The terrain is radically different and is stunning when you are walking on it. The very layers of rock types, often swirl or interrupt each other in very defined ways. Red is the predominant color, but the others are equally imposing.
We also did a moonlight walk at sundown, it was a full moon. The only way to see the path was small red lights they had placed on the trail. Surprisingly the trail was very rough and required scrabbling up and down in the dark! The unseen danger added to the enjoyment.
The park has many areas and hikes. We only did a few of them. The surfaces were mostly solid exposed rock, and/or crumble soil from the erosion.
