Stone Mountain, Atlanta GA

11-26-2024

A massive stone mountain sits just east of Atlanta. It has a one mile steep ascent to the top. Its pretty cold and windy up there. The view is incredible. Its heavily wooded all around, and maybe a third up the side we walked.

Parts of the walk are very steep. Over the years, various visitors carved messages into the stone, some serious with dates, many done by amateurs.

The main attraction is the carving in the side, 400 ft up. Its 190 feet wide, and 90 feet high. The carving depicts three Confederate leaders of the Civil War and is just above a little village used for seasonal entertainment.

We were there during the Christmas celebration, and got a closeup view of its parade of mini floats.
